The Educational Experiences Qualitative Research Hub (EEQR ) is an interdisciplinary research initiative committed to advancing understanding of how macro-level structures and policies influence individual experiences within educational systems.
In alignment with the Everyone Graduates Center’s research-to-practice philosophy, EEQR foregrounds the voices and lived experiences of students, educators, school leaders, families, and community members to inform equitable and sustainable improvements in education. Through the use of innovative qualitative methodologies, youth participatory action research, and data storytelling, EEQR seeks to generate actionable insights that bridge research and practice. Our work transforms complex data into meaningful narratives that guide educators, policymakers, and communities in developing responsive, inclusive, and evidence-informed educational practices.

Join us for a conversation with Dr. Bianca J. Baldridge, author of Laboring in the Shadows: Precarity and Promise in Black Youth Work (Stanford University Press).
Drawing on interviews with youth workers across the United States, Dr. Baldridge will explore the essential yet often underrecognized role of youth workers and community-based educators, the challenges they face, and how Black youth workers respond through innovative practices, “freedom dreaming,” and joy.

Utilizing a range of qualitative approaches, we seek to deepen understanding of how individuals, educational institutions, and local communities negotiate, navigate, and resist the educational conditions and circumstances that shape their lives. Through this exploration, we seek to identify actionable insights that can lead to meaningful improvements in the educational landscape.
Student voice is a cornerstone of our work. In collaboration with The Youth Research Council (YRC), EEQR centers student voice and engages students in YPAR as co-researchers.
The YRC is a long-term youth participatory action research initiative designed to advance civic engagement, data justice, and democratic practice. As a research-driven collective, the YRC documents how policies and practices reproduce institutional inequities, particularly in schools, while positioning youth not only as stakeholders but also as essential leaders in evidence gathering, analysis, and advocacy. Drawing on multimodal methods – especially arts-based approaches grounded in the creative and everyday knowledge-making practices of young people – the YRC values diverse forms of inquiry as central to building community research capacity.
Grounded in the conviction that youth expertise, rooted in lived experience, must inform decision making at all levels, EEQR and YRC partners to build youth research capacity to examine their educational and social realities.
EEQR centers participants’ experiences as a vital component of our research approach. We conduct comprehensive formative, implementation, and summative studies across the field of education to enhance educational practices and assess the efficacy of interventions and program/policies.
By gathering and analyzing data on individual experiences and outcomes across all stages of program development and implementation, we uncover critical insights that drive continuous improvement. These insights help ensure that programs and policies not only meet intended educational outcomes but also adapt to participants’ needs and contexts. Our evaluation process examines the fidelity of program delivery—assessing how well programs are implemented in real-world settings—and identifies facilitators and barriers that may influence or hinder success. This process helps optimize program effectiveness and ultimately enriches learning experiences.
To ensure our research effectively informs practice, EEQR specializes in data storytelling, transforming complex data into meaningful narratives that resonate across audiences, regardless of background, domain expertise, or technical proficiency.
Drawing on our experience in postsecondary pathways, organizational and institutional studies, and Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), we examine educational policy and practice within the broader societal contexts. Using qualitative and contextual data such as interviews, surveys, and case studies, we uncover rich insights and present findings through visually engaging and accessible formats.
Our goal is to make data accessible, relevant, and impactful across diverse educational communities. This approach helps educators, policymakers, students, and community members understand data more clearly and use it to guide meaningful change.
